What kind of school is OCHS?

Open Campus High School is a night high school that offers classes that will enable a
student to obtain a College Prep or Tech Prep diploma at a SACS accredited
institution.  Our philosophy is to serve the needs of high school students who cannot or choose not to remain in a regular school program.

The Open Campus Night High School is organized and operated on a mini-mester plan.  The school year is divided into four 36-day intervals.  All classes are limited to a maximum enrollment of 18 students.  Students are permitted to come and go as classes begin and end.  Class blocks are two hours and five minutes in duration with a brief break between each class.  Three blocks of classes are offered each mini-mester and students may take from 1 to 3 classes each mini-mester.

Classes begin at 4:05 p.m. and run continuously until 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  Students may earn 6 units each year attending OCHS in the evening and may earn more if they choose to take advantage of the co-op program with the Carroll County Technical High School.  Any student attending vocational classes at the Tech High campus during the day must attend all five days each week.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All students must provide their own transportation.

  • Class ATTENDANCE is required.  Only 4 absences per mini-mester are allowed.

  • Open Campus students are responsible for their own decisions and conduct.  Adult privileges are afforded and adult conduct is required.  Students are held accountable for the agreements made in the registration contracts.

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS

  1. A student must be 16 years of age or older.

  2. Carroll County students must withdraw from their day school if they wish to attend classes without paying tuition.  Students living in other area school systems may attend only as shared students; they must remain in their day school and pay tuition.  Also, Carroll County students may attend as shared students and pay tuition.

  3. A $50.00 non-refundable registration fee is required for shared students.

  4. A fee of $110.00 is required for each 1/2 unit course taken by shared students.  This fee is generally due by MIDTERM of each mini-mester.

REGISTRATION

Registration is held each mini-mester.  This year's registration dates and times can be found at the bottom of this page.

To register, a student needs the following:

  1. A copy of the student's school records, which includes health and discipline records from previous school (if full time).  A "Shared Student Letter" completed by your day-school counselor (if shared).

  2. A withdrawal form from the previous school attended if coming to OCHS full time.

  3. If under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must be present to co-sign the OCHS contracts with the student.

  4. Tuition is not charged unless the student is enrolled in a regular high school or has a high school diploma.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Each student must have 22 units in the required subjects and must pass the Georgia High School Graduation Tests in order to receive a diploma.  A Certificate of Attendance is earned if all the unit requirements are met and students still have one or more GHSGT to pass.
